NEW YORK (Spin Magazine) - Rapper Jay-Z has topped the list of Spin Magaziness 40 most important artists in music today.

In the issue that features the list, they say that Jay-Z having released an album and staging a sellout tour in the weeks following September 11, that he showed his versatility in other ways: He moved his Roc-a-Fella imprint into fashion and movies and kept his street wit sharp in a rhyme war with Mobb Deep and Nas.

The music magazine says the artists that are chosen for this list are making some of the freshest most challenging music of the past few years.

Jay-Z is followed by musicians Radiohead, Eminem, U2 and System Of A Down who round out the top five.
Also on Spins list are Creed who ranked 19th, Canadian Nelly Furtado came in at 20, Slipknot was 33rd and Blink-182 came in right being in 34th place.
