The Fader Premieres Video For Strand Of Oaks' "Goshen '97" (Featuring J Mascis) From Dead Oceans Debut 'Heal' (Out June 24)
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) The Fader is exclusively premiering the video for "Goshen '97," the lead track from Strand of Oaks' Dead Oceans debut, 'HEAL' (out June 24). The song, which features Dinosaur Jr's J Mascis on guitar, has already earned early raves, with Pitchfork calling it "raw and reckless" and Stereogum hailing it as "a rocket-fueled nostalgia trip." Check out the video, directed by Rick Alverson (director of 'The Comedy,' starring Tim & Eric, as well as videos for Sharon Van Etten, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and more), below:

"It had been a dream of mine to work with Rick Alverson," says Tim Showalter of Strand of Oaks. "Rick is a master of blending tragedy, humor, and catharsis, and that's exactly what the song is about. It doesn't celebrate the huge victories in life or mourn the heaviest memories. It's about the moments between the ups and downs, where I believe we spend most of our lives. The days that aren't shitty or particularly great, when you realize you're one day farther from being young and you're only getting older. Sometimes things so simple can be the most tragic."

From the opening notes of "Goshen '97," it's clear that a musical evolution has taken place since we last heard from Strand of Oaks on 2012's 'Dark Shores.' The skeletal, haunted folk of his acclaimed early records has given way to a thrilling synth and guitar-heavy, full-tilt band sound, the kind of intense and immersive experience fans will recognize from Strand of Oaks' extensive touring with artists like The Tallest Man On Earth and Phosphorescent.

He'll mark the release with a full-band performance at the Mercury Lounge in New York on June 26.
