NEW YORK (V-Town Records/ www.appliedideas.net/cinematic.htm) - 'Life is like a movie? No movies are like my life.' Few people can say that and fall upon agreement. Snoop Dogg is one that can, which is why the song 'Cinematic' starts with those words. The song adds a new, movie concept spin and takes us back to the roots of gangsta rap.

What are the roots that made gangsta rap so popular in the first place? They are planted in a voice that was true to a particular community that hadn/t been heard before. From a community with its own language, sound, stories and unique way of creating music. The every day stories told in the early gangsta rap, appear to the audience of non gangsters as "movie like". They are rich with stories often shown in movies and television shows, but they are told with the emotions of someone that had actually experienced them. The high drama and often shocking stories with raw, but fitting language, carried by funky bad gangsta beats came together to tell story in a new cinematic style.

The song 'Cinematic' picks up on the 'movie like' theme of the genre by comparing scenes from Snoop Dogg/s life to those on a movie set. "The light shone on the corner where we lean, no stage hand or make up artist in site, yes I'm the director of this scene." The scenes portrayed in the song range from tough shoot em up scenes to party and red carpet arrivals, all circumscribing the ups and downs of Snoop Dogg/s real life. The story comes to an end by emphasising the fact that while being an entertainer, his rap is still based on real life experience.

The Movie concept is emphasized in the music, which consists of movie trailer sounds and voices. The melody that is derived from a recent horror movie track creates a sense of gangsta eeriness. Each "scene" is supported buy sound bites from movie trailers which add a distinct sense of drama. Perhaps the coolest element is the scratching of the "rated R" voice heard at the end of movie advertisements. Its a voice that is filled with much power and recognition.

Cinematic is likely to be a blockbuster hit. It captures the heart of gangsta rap and portraits the life of gangsta soul brutha number, Snoop Dogg. The movie theme works, and creates the unique mega high impact gangsta sound that you've been waiting for since 1994.
