PITTSBURGH (www.rockandrow.com/ www.headoftheohio.org) - Hip-Hop star Talib Kweli will headline the outdoor concert at the CollegeCity Rock 'n Row Weekend on Saturday, October 2, along the banks of the city's North Shore.
The performance is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Thousands of area college students will join rowers and spectators from the Head of the Ohio rowing regatta to enjoy music and dance performances, extreme sports demonstrations, games and other activities as part of an annual event designed to highlight Pittsburgh's cultural, recreational and career resources.

Kweli will be arriving in Pittsburgh on the heels of a high-profile summer tour with the Beastie Boys and a September release of his new CD, "The Beautiful Struggle."
"Talib Kweli is one of the biggest names in Hip Hop today, and we're thrilled that he will be a part of Rock 'n Row Weekend," said Prentiss Orr, one of the event organizers.

Planned as an economic development initiative by many collaborative partners - including Three Rivers Rowing Association, which sponsors the Head of the Ohio - Rock 'n Row Weekend will spotlight many of the youth-oriented organizations whose missions directly serve the interests of a younger demographic in the Pittsburgh region.

Students from the region's 32 colleges and universities - a combined student body of 135,000 and, according to Collegia, a Boston research group, the sixth highest concentration of college students in the country - are invited to venture off campus and discover the energy that's building in Pittsburgh.

It also was announced last month that the producers of Jeopardy! will bring their touring "Brain Bus" to Rock 'n Row Weekend in hopes of finding local undergraduates to compete in this year's annual College Championship. The tournament will be taped at the University of Pittsburgh's Petersen Events Center a week later.

All activities and attractions are free, except the concert beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Federal Street. Tickets at $7.50 are available online at https://www.rockandrow.com . Other ticket outlets will be announced soon.

Much of the excitement for Rock 'n Row Weekend will come from the 18th Annual Head of the Ohio Regatta, which is one of the nation's largest and most respected rowing events. For more information go to https://www.headoftheohio.org.
