LONDON, UK (Top40 Charts/ Sticky Toffee PR) London based independent artist Kilian is calling on both old and new fans alike to dig deep and support the release of his forthcoming album 'The Farmer's Backyard', via online fundraising tool Kickstarter.
For as long as he can remember, Kilian has been putting words together and building some kind of sonic pattern.
"I honestly couldn't tell you when it all started. I recall a backpack full of notes, little scribbles of rhymes tucked and hidden away, quotes of texts smearing my Maths core textbook…"
It took Kilian well over a year to make his first record - the forthcoming 'The Farmer's Backyard' - and the constraints ran deeper than just financial limitations. His creative process, writing, the level of imagination, the doubt, frustration, the physical effort proved just as taxing as the cost of production.
Kilian has since released 3 official music videos, all in an attempt to promote the project. Kilian's YouTube channel has since amassed over 2 million views - a huge deal by any scale especially for an independent artist with no major backing.
Kilian has developed what major labels call a 'complete package', which normally costs a bucket load to build because of all the financial risks involved in setting up a brand from the ground, one which may/not be successful. In this current economic climate, record companies are fast running away from such risks and would rather invest in 'established' acts, hence his DIY approach.
"I believe if you're unwilling to do it yourself then why should anyone else? I love what I do and so far I've been able to put my money where my mouth is... The final hurdle is getting this out there, far and wide."
Kilian is now relying on supporters to fund the release of his LP, and has so far raised over £7000 of his £12,500 target. He now has just 25 days to raise a further £5000, and is relying on the support of music lovers from across the world to help him accomplish his goal.
"I could never really truly pay you back," says Kilian, "for some free music and a few freebies you will be making my dreams come true and no monetary value could out-price such an achievement."
