New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) Dessa - "one of the most diverse and talented artists in indie rap" (URB)—will preview songs from her forthcoming album 'Parts Of Speech' at a three-date New York City residency in May (Wednesday, May 1st at Mercury Lounge; Wednesday, May 8th at Union Hall; and Monday, May 13th at SubCulture Arts).
As the Doomtree collective's only female emcee, Dessa combines innovative hip-hop beats with multi-layered instrumentation, laying the groundwork for her uniquely expressive rap-sing and whip-smart songwriting.
Dessa's previous work has been lauded by NPR, The A.V. Club and MTV Iggy, who describes her as "a combination of Jean Grae and
William Blake, or maybe
Drake and Emily Dickinson." As for Dessa's live set, Details Magazine says "there's something fascinating about her performances."
