NEW YORK (Bruce Springsteen Fans Website) - A New York politician has called for voters to boycott Bruce Springsteen because the Boss signed up to perform at the anti-Bush Vote for Change Tour. Marilyn O'Grady, the Conservative Party's candidate for U.S. Senate in New York, has paid for 30 second ads to air on Fox News in Albany, N.Y., Rollingstone.com reported Tuesday.
He thinks making millions with a song-and-dance routine allows him to tell you how to vote. 'Here's my vote: Boycott the Boss. If you don't buy his politics, don't buy his music,' the ad says after detailing a handful of allegations against Springsteen regarding his lack of support for former President Reagan and incumbent President Bush. Springsteen is one of more than a dozen musical acts, including the Dave Matthews Band and the Dixie Chicks, who agreed to perform during October in key voter states.
This is one of the most critical elections of my lifetime ... I've built up 25 years of credibility, hopefully, with my audience. That's something I've tried to put to good use when called upon. It's also something I don't expend lightly, Springsteen said.
O'Grady plans to air the ad in other markets during the next month.
