HOUSTON, TX. (Music World/Sanctuary) - 104 KRBE
Radio and
Music World/Sanctuary have teamed up to produce Project Popstar, a local talent search to discover Houston's next all-girl group. Auditions will be held at the
George R. Brown Convention Center Saturday, August 14, 2004 beginning at 7:00 a.m.
Each contestant will be vying for a spot in a newly created all-girl group. The Grand Prize winners will have the chance to be signed and managed by the Music World/Sanctuary label and management company, currently managing artists such as Destiny's Child, Mary J. Blige, Angie Stone, Eve and Floetry to name a few.
"There's a lot of talent in this city and we're looking for the best of the best to be in Houston's next all-girl group singing sensation," says Mathew Knowles, president of Music World/Sanctuary Urban Music Group Inc. "Auditions will be tough. Unlike most local talent contests we are bringing in reputable judges that have made a name for themselves in the global music industry. I'm confident we'll end up with a ton of great talent."
Project Popstar promises to raise the bar in discovering local talent. Females between the ages of 16 and 21 are invited to participate in Project Popstar. Participants under 18 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian present at all stages of the event.
The contest will be open to the first 500 eligible contestants that are in line at the George R. Brown Convention Center Saturday, August 14, 2004. Check-in will begin promptly at 7:00 am. Prior to the event, each contestant must logon to www.104krbe.com and download the application and official contest rules. Upon arrival each contestant must have their application filled out in its entirety.
Over a two-day period, 500 contestants will be narrowed down to twenty finalists. These ladies will attend the week-long world renowned Music World Boot Camp where they will go through rigorous vocal coaching sessions, dance and performance classes. Up to five of the final twenty participants may form Houston's newest all-girl group.
"We are especially looking forward to partnerships we've made with the City of Houston and Mayor Bill White," says Knowles. In addition to the City of Houston, Pepsi, True Star Fragrance by Tommy Hilfiger, and VT2 Studios have come aboard as major sponsors. Other sponsors include Pro/Sound, One True Voice Studios, Hyatt Transportation, LPP Printing, The Upper Hand Spa and Breakfast Club.
Project Popstar will take place at the George R. Brown Convention Center located at 1001 Avenida de las Americas in downtown Houston on Saturday, August 14, 2004. Registration will promptly begin at 7:00 am. For more information on Project Popstar log on to www.104KRBE.com
