 LOS ANGELES (George Strait Fans Website) - Grand Champion, a film featuring appearances by George Strait and the Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines, is set to open Aug. 27 at select theaters throughout the U.S. Set in Texas, the film's plot centers around a 12-year-old boy's devotion to his family by selling a prize steer for $775,000. The film stars Cache Williams, Jacob Fisher, Joey Lauren Adams and Emma Roberts, who is Julia Roberts' niece, along with cameo appearances by Strait, Maines, rodeo legend Larry Mahan and others. Grand Champion was filmed three years ago in Snyder, Texas. Although the film premiered in Snyder and Austin, Texas, in 2002, it was not released nationally. The soundtrack includes music from Strait, the Dixie Chicks, Willie Nelson and Asleep at the Wheel.
