NEW YORK (Universal Motown Records) - Da Family / Blackground/Universal recording artist, JoJo, continues to break records. The latest is being the youngest solo artist, age 13, to receive a nomination for an MTV Video Music Award in the show's 21 year history. The VMAs air live Sunday, August 29, 2004. MTV announced the nominations yesterday and JOJO garners her first award nomination in the "Best New Artist In A Video" category for her debut video, "Leave (Get Out)." Also nominated in the category are: Jet, Yellowcard, Maroon 5, Kanye West, and The Darkness. "Leave (Get Out)" has also broken records on the charts. Earlier this month JoJo became the youngest artist to have a No 1 song on Billboard's Monitor Chart, beating the previous record held by Britney Spears who was 16 when she went 1. JoJo made her debut on the music scene last month with the release of "JOJO." The CD debuted on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart at No 4 and received RIAA GOLD Certification for sales over 500,000 in the first 30 days. Recently returned from a European tour opening for Usher, JoJo's upcoming appearances include Teen Choice Awards (August 11/FOX), and the 2004 Arthur Ashe Kids Day (August 29/CBS). Look for JoJo to be in the house for the VMAs, which air live Sunday, August 29 from Miami, FL.
