In case you haven't heard, the husband-and-wife duo of Swish and Nadirah X marry intelligent, socially conscious rap music with Caribbean flavor and funky, futuristic production. Originally hailing from Jamaica, Nadirah weaves together impactful street poetry reminiscent of hip hop's golden age, while the Mississippi-born Swish fires off verses with smooth style and clever lyrics. Once again offering his visionary perspective, STEWART worked closely developing them and honing their vision.
"For me it's making music that relates our experiences as artists and as human beings," Nadirah X says. "Doing it with someone you share a life with and who truly knows you, brings a whole other dynamic to the process. It's beautiful." Swish finishes her thought, "At the same time, we're trying to inspire people to reach their dreams."
"It's refreshing seeing a married couple working intensely together rapping about stuff that directly relates to them and their situation: one so many other couples can relate to," Stewart says. "I liken their spirit to Ashford and Simpsons when they sang 'solid, solid as a rock.' Mr. & Mrs. are one of Weapons of Mass Entertainment's secret weapons ."
MR. & MRS. recently unveiled their debut single "On Everything." With their inimitable interplay and engaging rhymes, the track is as enigmatic as these two individuals.
Already, the press has welcomed the music of MR. & MRS. The Huffington Post (8/15/12) writes, "Swish and Nadirah throw down the gauntlet to the music industry and to our society, daring us to 'know the name' of more than gangsta' rappers and ho' slappers, daring us to know the name of spiritual warriors, poets, originals, with the audacity to speak of the divine. Daring us to know the divine within ourselves."
This collection continues a close relationship between the two and STEWART and multimedia powerhouse, WEAPONS OF MASS ENTERTAINMENT. Nadirah released her critically acclaimed offering, Ink, on the label. It was her prowess as a wordsmith that initially enchantedSTEWART, inspiring him to sign her and then collaborate with the likes of Jimmy Cliff, Harry Belafonte, Mick Jagger, and Joss Stone.
Nevertheless, this is only the beginning. Now that MR. & MRS. have moved in, hip hop might never be the same.
