MEMPHIS, TN. (The Recording Academy) - The
Memphis Chapter of the Recording Academy today announced it is partnering with Huey's Restaurants to benefit MusiCares, a non-profit organization established by the Recording Academy that provides assistance to musicians in need. On Sunday, July 25 from 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., seven Huey's Restaurant locations will take part in the benefit, donating a portion of net sales from the evening to MusiCares.
'We are so thankful to Huey's for partnering with us to support this important cause," said Jon Hornyak, Executive Director, Memphis Chapter. ' Every day, MusiCares helps people we all know, like a guitar player who undergoes surgery without health insurance; a veteran pianist whose hand injury will prevent him from performing for an extended period; the family of a beloved blues artist who cannot afford to pay for his funeral; or a songwriter who has found that substance abuse is consuming his life. We are proud that MusiCares helps the people in this music community. '
Huey's Restaurants have long been a contributor to good causes in the greater Memphis community, and their partnership works naturally with the MusiCares Benefit Night. " An integral component of the Huey's 'vibe' is the live music we've showcased every Sunday for the last 30 years or so," said Jay Sheffield, co-owner of Huey's. "The musicians who create this music are valuable assets to us, so it's natural that we'd join with The Recording Academy to help fund health care for these artists. Huey's cares that MusiCares!"

Established in 1989 by the Recording Academy, MusiCares provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need. MusiCares services and resources cover a wide range of financial, medical and personal emergencies, and each case is treated with integrity and confidentiality. MusiCares also focuses the resources and attention of the music industry on human service issues that directly impact the health and welfare of the music community.
The Memphis Chapter of the Recording Academy, through its extensive program of initiatives, member benefits and education programs, continues to pull the music community together by developing local pride in the rich musical heritage of the region, and by offering opportunities to young people interested in pursuing careers in music.
