New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Eros official website) Heavy prog rock band Eros have reformed in Orange. The driving force behind it is Ray Vanderby who was a founding member of the band. Eros became a legendary band in the 5 years they were together from 1968 to 1972. Eros was originally formed by keyboard player Ray Vanderby and drummer Joe Nieuwnedyk as a 2 piece prog rock band. This 2 piece line up toured Central West NSW including playing supports for Sherbet and Richard Clapton.
They were a radical pair of musicians playing intense Hammond organ and high energy rhythms. The band expanded to a 5 piece when Albert Calvo on guitar, Step Delaney on vocals and Bob Carroll on bass joined. Englishman Robin Large played bass later as well. This 5 piece line up won 2nd prize in the Hoadleys Battle of the Sounds Competition in 1971 before moving from Orange to Sydney. Unfortunately the band broke up and went their seperate ways in 1972.
After many years working as a pro session musician in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide Vanderby moved back to Orange in 2008. He visited the old Canobolas Hall where the band used to rehearse and the inspiration came flooding back. Reharsals for new material based on the original songs and a new line up began in May 2012.
