NEW YORK (Virgin Megasteroes press release) - Kool Moe Dee (left) kicked off Virgin Megastore's National Hip Hop month long campaign, when he sat ringside with fellow artist, Cassidy, at the first annual Hip Hop Panel discussion held at the Virgin Megastore in Times Square.

WHAT: Flash back. Graffiti-filled alleys are filled with the beats of Grand Master Flash & The Furious Five. B-Boys and B-Girls are on the corner poppin' and lockin'. All the while early MCs and graffiti artists are taking a new art form to create a new culture - Hip Hop.
Now, Virgin Megastore is pleased to celebrate the legacy of Hip Hop through a series of events lauding all the aspects Hip Hop culture; from its heroes to its outlaws.

WHO: VIRGIN MEGASTORE TIMES SQUARE:
* On Wednesday July 7th, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. DMC (Disco Mix Club), the largest DJ organization that evolved into the driving force behind the DMC/Technics Turntable Battle & DJ/urban apparel, will host a DJ Spin Off. DMC has also introduced a new musical art form called Turntablism. DMC will bring an assortment of K-Street Records Guest DJ's to spin through the different eras of hip-hop. Guests include Jahsir, Tyshena, Brydge, Gift and more.
* The first week of July Def Jam will sponsor a week of promotions at both NYC Virgin Megastore locations with listening blocks dedicated to Hip Hop, contests and give-away prizes.
* On Thursday, July 8th at 6:30 p.m. Blue Marlin's Hip Hop Fashion Show kicks off. Virgin staff members will take over the runway as they showcase the latest in street ware. A Blue Marlin prize package will be given away to a lucky Megastore customer.

VIRGIN MEGASTORE UNION SQUARE:
* On Friday, July 9th Virgin Megastore, Union Square will launch a special Graffiti Exhibit. Ernie Paniccioli often referred to as the Hip Hop Photo King, will host a special photography exhibit that showcases his work of capturing 3 decades of the art of graffiti. The exhibit will open at 6 p.m. in the Virgin Cafe. He will also sign copies of his book, "Who Shot Ya?"
* The campaign will wrap up with Independent's Week - A Celebration of Independent Hip-Hop sponsored by Definitive Juxx Records July 6th - July 8th.
* As part of Indie Week there will be a panel discussion on Tuesday, July 6th at 6 p.m.: The panel will feature El-P, Jim Mahoney, Michael Bull and a free performance by Rjd2 following the discussion.
* On Wednesday, July 7th at 6 p.m. the store will host free in store performances from: Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic, Hangar 18, SA Smash, C-Rayz Walz and more!
* On Thursday, July 8th at 5 p.m. there will be a Hip Hop Producers Workshop featuring Def Jux engineer NASA, Hangar 18's DJ pa WL plus more. Open turntables hosted by Hangar 18. Sign up begins at 4 p.m. All this will be followed by an after party at Pianos, NYC at 11 p.m.

DETAILS: Virgin Megastores nationwide will offer deep discounts on CDs that span the Hip Hop experience such as Grand Master Flash, Eric B. & Rakim and De La Soul as well as DVDs like Style Wars, The Freshest Kids, Juice, and Emenim's biopic, 8 Mile. Customers can also pick up apparel from Blue Marlin, Technics, and Virgin-branded slipmats.
