LONDON, UK (Top40 Charts/ Warp Records) The 24 year old London-based musician and producer has previously worked with artists as acclaimed and diverse as Speech Debelle and Damon Albarn. But it's his own music that has most recently solidified his reputation as a humble master of sonic arts, creating inventive and heartening songs which Kwes refers to as free-pop, pop music without boundaries.
"thoughtfully explores love and the human condition in colorful bursts of electronic pop"- MTV Hive
"somewhere between TV on the Radio and Aphex Twin's more organic material" -Pitchfork
"the right combination of ego and insecurity to lure listeners into his lush, sentimental world"- Village Voice
Having already shared the song "bashful," now available is "lgoyh" which was namedBest New Track today on Pitchfork. Both tracks are off his forthcoming EP Meantime and uphold the production standard set by his work with the aforementioned Albarn, as well as remixes for the likes of Hot Chip, and previous EP on Young Turks. But Kwes wants it to be known that with this new EP that his focus is songs. When listening to his heart-on-the-sleeve lyrics it paints an immediate picture of who Kwes is, and makes you want to view the world with the same hopeful optimism. In "lgoyh" he implores "don't waste your tears on those inner jeers/ you have too many years ahead of you / and not too many before you." Like a breath of fresh air, his songs serve as a reminder that despite the angst of heart break or unrequited love that sometimes it is best to let go of the hurt.
And the US was recently able to experience these songs live for the first time when he made his debut at SXSW and in Brooklyn. Despite only playing his first live solo show this winter, he is no novice to the stage, having previously played in the live bands for acts like Jack Penate and Ebony Bones. His performance at SXSW earned him the spot of New York Magazine's top discovery of the entire festival. Stay tuned for upcoming show news!
