"The Red Herring is officially the unofficial Dockers band. Loving Albert!" -Dockers Official Facebook Page. Chasing Windmills was produced in part by a Man Grant from Dockers.com. Following a tradtion of philanthropy inspired by German immigrant and company founder Levi Strauss, The Man Grant is issued through The Wear the Pants Project which, "Gives men the resources and inspiration they need to finally do something great." The Man Grant award was used to produce four original songs by The Red Herring at Musician's
Institute in Hollywood by Dan Hughley of Crazyville Productions. The rest of Chasing Windmills was recorded at the historic 4th Street Recording studio in
Santa Monica by Sejo Navajas (Cold Blue Rebels, The People's Party) and mixed by Denise Barbarita (The Roots, Stevie Wonder).
Big Dave, Brooke Trout and
Vincent Perea are not The Red Herring. The Red Herring is a fish. Armed only with a guitar, harmonica and drum kit, the band has already played some of the hottest venues on the historic Sunset Strip including The House of Blues and The Viper Room.
The Red Herring achieved number 3 of 75 bands with over 600 votes during Eventful.com's battle of the bands and won their contest to perform at The Roxy. In the year and a half since the band's formation, The Red Herring has played at not only popular clubs but also for charitable causes including Nette Radio's annual Nette for Vets book drive, the Westlake Village benefit for the My Stuff Bags Foundation for neglected and abused children and a benefit for The Red Handed art commune in Topanga Canyon.
Big Dave, former band leader of the blues band The Dirty Liars began performing with Alternative darling Brooke Trout as one of her Anchormen. Now the two have joined forces with drummer (and Big Dave's Brother)
Vincent to form The Red Herring. Most recently the band has become the first featured musical act and house band for The Late Night Rad News Sketch Show, a political comedy troupe at Bang. Theatre in Los Angeles.
"On stage The Red Herring projects a really controlled cool presence." -Lizzie Czerner, The Late Night Rad News Sketch Show.
