New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ TweetMySong Official Website) TweetMySong is saddened to report the tragic death of Rapper Kafani's cousin, Hiram Lawrence, Jr.
Hiram, just a year old, was shot in the head during the filming of Kafani's rap video and passed away December 9.
The shooting occurred in front of a liquor store in West Oakland on November 28, while Kafani's crew was filming footage for his rap video. It was reported that 7 people were shot/injured, including Kafani's one year old cousin Hiram Lawrence, Jr.
Hiram was struck in the head, as his father, who was also shot in the arm, held him.
Young Hiram, who had been on life support for 11 days, was clinically brain dead since the shooting, which took place in front of
State Market Liquors.
Police believe the shooting occurred as people gathered to film a rap video for Kafani, whose promotional van was riddled with bullets.
Surveillance cameras caught the shooting on videotape and police are still seeking suspects.
It has been rumored that the shooting was in retaliation against Kafani. Kafani is not a suspect in the shooting.
We hear a lot about the Rap Wars or Rap Beefs within the Hip-Hop/Rap music industry. When will people in this industry wake up. Instead of violence and trying to bring down a fellow rapper, we should rise up and applaud one another. We should support each other in all our respective endeavors. Or if not at the very least, have the common decency to give the very basic courtesy of respect and don't stir the pot.
If you have a beef for whatever reason with another rapper, don't take up arms in a violent act and destroy innocent lives. Put your money where your mouth is and take a pen to paper! Put your talent to work and write lyrics to express your issues but also be open to finding a solution that doesn't end in a horrific and untimely death of another innocent child or anyone for that matter.
This senseless shooting has, as in other similar scenarios, affected so many families. No one deserves this. The world has lost a poor innocent child who was merely one year old. Hiram is the second small child to be fatally wounded by gun violence in Oakland this year.
Carlos "Carlito" Nava was shot in the neck on International Boulevard on Aug. 8 while out with his parents. He later died at Children's Hospital. Two men were later arrested and charged with the killing.
