NEW YORK (Real Sovage/Sanctuary Records) - Haitian rapper, entrepreneur and bi-coastal socialite, Won-G, is exploding on the music scene with his first nationally distributed album,
Rage of the Age, on Real Sovage/Sanctuary Urban Records.
The single
"Caught Up in the Rapture," which pays homage to the seminal 1980
Blondie tune
"Rapture," 1st week out was the most downloaded video on AOL.com with more than half a million downloads in one week.
In fact, after three weeks, the video remained on the website's top ten selects of clips.
In addition to this Won-G is making an impact as a business man in Corporate America as well as an all-around good guy lending his help to his favorite cause: children of the world. So it is only fitting that Won-G is both Unicef's and Haiti's Ambassador of Good Will for the Children.
Born in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, Won-G relocated to the United States around the age of thirteen. He and his family made their homes on both the eastern and western coasts (New York and Los Angeles) of the United States of America. After his father found an advertisement in the paper regarding the pressing up of CD's at a relatively reasonable rate, Won-G began his now ten-year career in the independent music business.
Among Won-G's self-distributed releases are Do It, Do It (1995), Royal Impression (2000), No Better Than This (2001) and Explosion (2002). Of these albums, Won-G has featured his friends Carmen Elektra and Tracy Bingham in videos, and now heiress Paris Hilton makes an unprecedented appearance in the latest video. That's all to say that long before a major distribution deal, Won-G had it going on!
Rage of the Age, Won-G's forthcoming effort, is another display of his creative workmanship; the hardcore, pulsating "Blind Man," which addresses prejudice against Haitians at home and abroad, shows his versatility as an artist. Also, the Caribbean-inspired "I'm a Haitian" is performed with morsels of Creole, Won-G's native language, supporting the melody of the song and showing the importance of culture and language in Won-G's music.
Now with the help of Mathew Knowles at the helm of Sanctuary Urban, Won-G is ready to take his art to another level. Won-G's hard work will finally pay off with his national release of Rage of the Age on August 24th.
