BIRMINGHAM, Miss. (Top40 Charts / Big Effin Garage Official Website) Big F'n Garage (https://www.bigfn.com) has opened registration to indie bands of all genres, promising to help their music be heard. Once enough bands have signed on, Big F'n Garage will launch an exclusive beta test. The pre-registered bands will be able to upload their music, photos, customize their online profile, and get a feel for how the site operates.
A virtual "Battle of the Bands" will throw two bands in the ring together. The listener simply chooses which artist they preferred and then moves on to the next match. Within a short amount of time, the user will have built up an extensive library of music they wouldn't have had a chance to hear elsewhere. Meanwhile, the formerly undiscovered band will be making new fans and have the opportunity to interact with all of them.
"The only thing that we're trying to accomplish is shining a light on new talent and original music," co-founder Stephen Sawchuk explains. "The internet has helped indie bands out a great deal, but nobody has it exactly right just yet."
Competitors offer a phonebook-style directory of bands, or a simple "shuffle" through hundreds of thousands of artists, which is what Big F'n Garage aims to eliminate. Instead, listeners will be given various ways of interacting with randomly selected bands in small doses, creating the chance for more tailored, intimate connections with new music.
Big F'n Garage expects to "open the garage" to the public in early 2012.
