Greater Cleveland Flute Society Announces Recital And Masterclass With Alexa Still On November 6, 2011
CLEVELAND, OH. (Top40 Charts/ Greater Cleveland Flute Society Official Website) The Greater Cleveland Flute Society (GCFS) announces a recital and masterclass with Alexa Still, Associate Professor of Flute at Oberlin on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 1:30 p.m. The event will be held at The Music Settlement, 11125 Magnolia Dr., Cleveland, Ohio 44106. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. to visit vendors: Flute Specialists and Royalton Music. This event is free for GCFS members (non-member admission price: $10).

Originally from New Zealand, Alexa Still (https://www.alexastill.com/) completed her graduate study in New York (SUNY Stony Brook) and was named principal flute of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra at the age of 23. In 1998, she left the NZSO to become Associate Professor of Flute at University of Colorado at Boulder in 1998. She then moved to Sydney at beginning of 2006, where she was Professor of Flute and Director of Performance research at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Alexa Still was appointed in 2011 as Associate Professor of Flute at Oberlin.

Masterclass participants include Mackenzie Danner, Chicago, Ill. (Cleveland Institute of Music), Yoonee Kim, Korea (The Ohio State University), and Elise Campbell, Mayfield Heights, Ohio (Mayfield High School). Kari Boyer was selected as an alternate performer.

Alexa will perform the Persian Folk Suite 12E, by Reza Vali, Touching the Ether by Ian Clarke, Fish are Jumping by Robert Dick and Duo for Flute and Piano by Aaron Copland. She will collaborate with pianist Eric Charnofsky.
