Harbourfront Centre Presents Enter The Shadow
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Harbourfront Centre Official Website) Harbourfront Centre is pleased to present the Fresh Ground new works commission Enter the Shadow. Created by the youth-led organization Break It Down, the production combines hip hop, dance, theatre and more, to tell the story of b-boy lifestyle and culture. Enter the Shadow, which runs from Thursday, Nov. 24 to Sunday, Nov. 27, is part of Harbourfront Centre's acclaimed NextSteps dance series.

Enter the Shadow is a dynamic journey through b-boy lifestyle and culture, into a world of dance artists born through battle and conflict, forging their own creations through strife around them with nothing but the concrete beneath their feet. The need to create is universal, but what does it take to put your art and soul up against the baddest b-boy on the block and emerge victorious? The production looks into the misunderstandings and misinformation about b-boy culture and conveys its essence: The process, the struggle, the inspiration, the history and the love, all told as the artists themselves journey from the streets to the stage.

Enter the Shadow is a collaboration between Break it Down and playwright Ins Choi, whose previous work, Kim's Convenience, won the 2011 Toronto Fringe New Play Contest. Break it Down is a dynamic, youth-led organization that creates productions from the diverse perspective of the hip hop generation and teaches about the empowering aspects of hip hop culture through education and mentorship programming. Co-artistic directors Jon Reid and Lee Pham, are not only two of the most talented b-boys in the country, but are also leaders in community events, educational programming and b-boy dance. Their credits range from international b-boy championships, judging major dance competitions, choreographing, and performing in a wide variety of local and international productions.

Enter the Shadow is one of Harbourfront Centre's 2010-11 Fresh Ground new works awards recipients. The national legacy programme commissions the creation of new, innovative multi-disciplinary art works. The performance is a part of Harbourfront Centre's NextSteps dance series, which has been Toronto's unrivalled contemporary dance series since 2005, a showcase of the depth and energy of established and emerging companies from Toronto and across Canada.

Performances are at the Enwave Theatre from Thursday, Nov. 24 through Sunday, Nov. 27. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:00 p.m.; Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $28 or $22 before Nov. 1. Student tickets are $15 and senior tickets are $24.

Discount ticket packages are available. The Double Bill combines Enter the Shadow and the Gadfly production of Klorofyl for $45. Discounts are also available for tickets to three or more NextSteps performances.
