New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Denis Taaffe Official Website) Bloomington, In based guitarist has already achieved more than many with the completion and this year's release of his 150th album
Modern rock guitar vol. 150 "Heliosphere".However, even with that accomplishment, he is not done yet.
He is now setting his sites on another goal in the form of a possible Grammy nomination in this year's 54th Grammy Awards. Denis is entered in 6 categories and in 2 of those categories he has multiple entries for different albums.Categories include best rock album, best rock performance, best pop solo performance and best pop instrumental album among others.
Denis is no stranger to the Grammy awards in that , since the year 2000, he has appeared on the Grammy entry list 8 times before but had not garnered enough votes to become a Grammy nominee. But he is quiet determined. "Well, this year will be my ninth year entering my Albums for Grammy consideration.I have no record label backing so it is harder for me to get the needed votes to become a Grammy nominee (the top 5 with the most votes advance to the next round and become Grammy nominee's. But, it's nice to be listed with really well known bands and musicians" Denis mentions.
Denis is a one man band of sorts with an interesting approach to guitar and music. He uses electric guitar, guitar loop done on the fly, bass emulations on guitar, drum samples and drum machines to create a musical style that is own.His guitar sounds sometimes emulate other instruments such has organs, synthesizers and wind instruments.
All the tracks on his album are recorded & performed live with no additional overdubs and all of his material is improvised on the spot.Though, an average listener would not be aware of this as his tracks sound very polished.
"My albums are really like a musical journey for me.Each one has its own theme that seems to develop and I am always surprised where it leads to musically.improvisation not just the within the track but the track it self allows me to capture some magical musical moments that I could not with conventional worked out music" Denis states.
At 41, Denis doesn't appear to be slowing down one bit.To date, he has completed and released 161 full length albums of original material and has just put the finishing touches on his 162nd album. "Well, I really don't rush to create albums, but it is exciting to see where the next one leads me musically. My debut was in 1999 and then in 2006 I did 75 albums in one year and now average about 10-12 albums a year. I guess I will stop when I run out of musical ideas or when I don't enjoy it anymore which is unlikely" Denis mentions.
