NEW YORK (Kristen Cothron Official Website) - Kristen began singing and performing at the age of six, playing the guitar at age nine, and writing lyrics and music at age thirteen. She spent her high school years performing solo and with local jazz and vocal groups around Nashville. She has had 11 years of vocal training, 5 years of guitar lessons, and 4 years of training in various dance styles. She was the featured vocalist for the Tennessee Youth Jazz Orchestra for four years, which performed at venues such as Blair Recital Hall at Vanderbilt University, The Nashville Jazz Institute, The Franklin Main Street Festival, and other local jazz festivals.

At 15, she attended the Berklee Songwriting Workshop in 2000 and received a scholarship the following year to attend the Berklee Summer Program. She received a World Tour Scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in the fall of 2002.

Kristen Cothron, released her latest album, Moment in the Moon, this week. This new album contains three songs produced and arranged by Andy Behrens, who in a fit of creativity threw sticks on the ground and dropped pebbles in a bucket of water, all in the name of rhythm.
Andy brought his Latin and urban jazz influences to table to give the project undeniable groove, moving countermelodies, and an overall jazz flavor.

Moment in the Moon also contains three new songs written with Buffalo native, Phil Dillon. These songs include 'High on the Blues', 'Your Love', and 'A World Apart' which were recently recorded at Nickel City Music in Nashville and they are lyrically insightful and musically indulgent.

One song from this album, 'The Space,' is to be featured as pre-show music for the world premier of 'Dream Book', by James Waedekin at Johnson Theater at The Tennessee Performing Arts Center in June. This is a Nashville Theater Works Benefit Production and will be directed by Catherine Coke.

Kristen Cothron is a gifted singer/songwriter/musician. She combines innate smooth vocal styling and urban jazz rhythms to make music that is both innovative and intelligent. Her voice, like her songs, is full of irony and authentic emotion. Creating a genre that is original and entirely her own - Kristen takes artistry to a whole new level.

Vocally she has been influenced by Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, Patsy Cline and Sarah Vaughn. She admires the writing styles of Elvis Costello, Lou Reed, and Sheryl Crow. Although young by measure of years, Kristen emits the soul of a veteran musician through her music, lyrics, and performance. These revolutionary tracks (The Space, Moment in the Moon, and Before You Begin) capture the avant garde jazz tendencies in her music, creating a style, that is inventive yet nostalgic. This new production conjures up images of Roberta Flack, Diana Krall, and Norah Jones.

Currently residing in the Nashville area, Kristen is pursuing her musical career and can be found performing locally just about every night of the week. Fans can find more about Kristen, her music, and schedule on the internet at www.kristencothron.com.

Kristen has performed her music locally at venues such as 12th & Porter, Hair of the Dog, The Franklin Main Street Festival, Mule Day Festival, The Pub of Love, Borders, Jammin' Java, Cafe 1-2-3, The Hangman, Bongo Java After Hours Theatre, Top of the Barrel, Hobo Joe's Songwriter Cafe, The French Quarter, The Boardwalk Cafe, The Commodore Lounge, Douglas Corner, The Bluebird Cafe, The 5 Spot, The It's All Good Cafe, and The Sutler Inn.
