NEW YORK (Amfibian Official Website) - Longtime Phish lyricst Tom Marshall, currently leading his own band, Amfibian, issued a statement today reacting to the sudden announcement that Phish was breaking up after 21 years. Marshall, who has been co-writing Phish's music with boyhood friend Trey Anastasio throughout the band's career, had this to say: "Of course I'm sad that Phish is breaking up, it's the end of an incredible era in so many ways. However, I'm incredibly proud and happy for them and more relieved, really, than anything. It's great that they were able to walk away and end on a positive note, because the potential for other unhappier endings seemed to be increasing. An unusual side-effect I'm noticing is that my band, Amfibian, seems to release a new album whenever Phish stops playing. And with Amfibian currently on tour, I'm interested to see how the crowd reacts when we play Phish songs now - or better yet, if a Phish member joins us on stage. I think there will be an added level of intensity for Amfibian playing during this strange last Phish tour." Amfibian's next show is scheduled for June 17 at New York City. Amfibian's current album, "From The Ether," was released this spring. Its predecessor, Amfibian Tales, came out in 2000, amid the last Phish hiatus.
