San Francisco, California (Top40 Charts/ San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus Official Website) Entering its 34th Season, San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus (SFGMC) presents its fundraising extravaganza of the year - Crescendo! - October 9, 2011 at Noon, Four Seasons Hotel.
This time-honored event is set to dazzle with a sumptuous brunch, silent and live auction featuring SFGMC's signature
Walls of Wine, sensational music and fabulous special guests including L.
Stuart Milk who has been selected to receive the SFGMC
Champion award for his dedicated contribution to human rights.
"Through Crescendo, SFGMC joins together the many men, women and organizations who have found a home, a family, a voice and a community through the power of music and a universal message of acceptance," said Michael Tate, SFGMC President. "This glorious event supports the Chorus in raising the crucial funds to build and sustain our broad repertoire of social endeavors. We look forward to an afternoon with you, filled with inspiration, as we continue to uphold and share the values of changing lives through the power of music."
It is through Crescendo that the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus raises the funds necessary to build and support music education, performance and outreach. Sean Chapin (whose campaign led to the San Francisco Giants making an It Gets Better video) has created four short videos featuring an audience member, singers and city leader, Bevan Dufty, describing how the Chorus changes lives.
Crescendo will feature a very special guest,
Stuart Milk, nephew of
Harvey Milk.
Stuart is one of the recipients of SFGMC's
Champion Awards. Teddy Witherington, Executive
Director of the Chorus said: "It is our privilege to honor these champions who by their actions, support SFGMC's vision of a world which all people are given the chance to develop a greater compassion for each other." Witherington continued, "Diageo, The Bay Area Reporter and
Stuart Milk are all helping to make a world where difference is celebrated; where equal access to the arts and the freedom to express diverse cultural identities is celebrated; and who believe, as we do, that choral music is vital to cultural and spiritual health."
In addition to the
Champion Awards, entertainment will be provided by South African Rugby Player and Countertenor Jacques Snyman, who has his own amazing story to tell about his path to Crescendo! SFGMC ensembles The
Lollipop Guild and Vocal Minority round out an afternoon of sublime entertainment.
