Fahir Atakoglu Returns To Drom NYC
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Redwood Entertainment) By popular demand legendary Jazz composer/pianist Fahir Atakoglu will be returning to play live at Drom in New York City on October 5, 2011 at 8:00 PM. Rendering music from his critically acclaimed U.S. Jazz CD releases, If, Istanbul in Blue and his latest CD, Faces & Places-and having reached #1 on the JazzWeek World Music Charts three times!-Fahir will be performing at Drom with internationally renowned musicians Alain Caron on bass and Cuban drummer Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez.

"There's a certain density of emotion that contrasts with the ambiguous, elusive nature of a lot of modern jazz. And that's all to the good, especially when the guy can play his ass off too, recalling Chick Corea, Dave Brubeck..."

-Mark D. Fefer, Seattle Weekly
Born in Istanbul, award-winning composer and pianist Fahir Atakoglu is well known for his ambitious symphonic works and music for film. He has composed music for many of Turkey's top musicians, and earned a loyal international following through the release of eighteen albums, including the critically acclaimed If, Istanbul in Blue, and his latest release Faces & Places, featuring Jazz fused with traditional Turkish sensibilities. Employing unique rhythmic, melodic and harmonic modalities, Atakoglu's music reflects his many different cultural influences, which he combines to create compositions with striking originality that continue to echo the culture of his homeland.

"As a follow-up to his hard-hitting fusion offering, 2008's Istanbul in Blue, the accomplished Turkish-born pianist-composer-arranger Fahir Atakoglu casts a wide stylistic net on Faces and Places, deftly incorporating musical elements from Spain, Brazil, the Middle East and New York City into the compelling mix.... Faces & Places is an adventurous and rewarding musical journey, conceived and realized by a talent who is definitely worthy of wider recognition."-Bill Milkowski

Fahir maintains an intense touring schedule, including his recent sold out shows at the world renowned Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, and Carnegie Hall in New York City, further establishing his worldwide appeal.

"Turkey's greatest jazzman" -Russ Davis of All About Jazz, MOJA Radio, Words & Music
"Atakoglu's music always has the dune sand and sun eroticism of his homeland"

-Michael G. Nastos for All Music Guide
