55 years ago this week, Elvis Presley was busy recording his #1-selling second album for RCA Records as well as the singles for his first motion picture, 'Love Me Tender.' Here are some of the events detailed in the time-line:

* August 24, 1956: Elvis recorded three songs for his film debut in what was tentatively called 'The Reno Brothers.' Among those was "Love Me Tender," the same title eventually adopted for the movie.

* August 31, 1956: RCA made recording history when the label released six singles simultaneously from Elvis' first LP. An additional single, "Shake, Rattle And Roll" b/w "Lawdy, Miss Clawdy," was also released. Together, the singles sold over one million copies.

* September 1, 1956: Steve Sholes, RCA producer, booked Radio Records studio on Santa Monica Boulevard to get Elvis' second album underway. The first night they recorded four songs including "Love Me" and "How Do You Think I Feel." The King ended up recording the majority of his material for the remainder of the decade at the same studio.
