Bela Fleck Premieres Concerto For Banjo With Nashville Symphony
NASHVILLE, TN. (Top40 Charts/ Nashville Symphony) Bela Fleck joins the Nashville Symphony Sept. 22-24, starting the 2011/12 season with the premiere of his brand-new Concerto for Banjo, a stunning showcase for his genre-melding style. Written for a vintage 1937 Gibson Mastertone banjo made of mahogany, the Concerto for Banjo marks a significant new departure for Fleck, which he describes as "a liberating experience for my career and my work as a composer." The Thursday evening performance will also be webcast.

This piece is perfectly matched with the famous Appalachian Spring by Aaron Copland, which celebrates the American spirit with music of breathtaking beauty and directness. The larger-than-life Fourth Symphony by Tchaikovsky was his favorite piece and sweeps the audience with an emotional palette that ranges from melancholy to exuberance.

Nashville Symphony with Giancarlo Guerrero, conductor and Bela Fleck, banjo.
