What's more, "WITH A TWIST: DELUXE EDITION" will be available at all SNC live dates, including the acclaimed a cappella group's exclusive summer concert engagement at Harrah's Resort Atlantic City. The ten-week residency - entitled "Back To The Shore: Songs Of The Decades and More" - officially got underway this week, with further shows slated for Saturday - Wednesday evenings through September 4th. The dates begin October 14th at Dallas' McFarlan Auditorium and then continue through late December (see itinerary below). Founded at Indiana University in the fall of 1996, Straight No Chaser's goal was to expand the boundaries of the traditional college a cappella group. From the start, they viewed themselves more like a local band that just happened to use their voices as their instruments. As original member Randy Stine comments, "We take the music very seriously; we just don't take ourselves too seriously." In the process, they are reinventing the idea of a cappella on the modern pop landscape.
In 1999, the graduating members of Straight No Chaser chose their replacements, ensuring that the new tradition they had created would continue on with successive generations of IU undergrads. Then, in 2006, the unexpected happened - Indiana University decided to host a reunion concert for the original members. In honor of the event, Stine posted footage from one of their 1998 concerts online and to the group's surprise, their version of "The 12 Days of Christmas" - interpolating Toto's "Africa" - became the hottest viral video of the holiday season. Among the millions of viewers was Atlantic Records Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman, who tracked Straight No Chaser down and promptly signed them to the label.
"HOLIDAY SPIRITS," the group's 2008 ATCO/Atlantic debut, saw Straight No Chaser re-energizing holiday classics such as "The Christmas Song," "Silent Night," and "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" with their captivating and powerful vocal arrangements. Fueled by appearances on ABC World News Tonight, CNN Headline News, and NBC's The Today Show, among others, the album spent 14 days in the No 1 slot on Amazon.com, and 5 days at the top spot overall on iTunes. The group's now famous version of "The 12 Days of Christmas" peaked in the top 10 on the Christmas radio chart and reached the top 15 at Hot AC.
2009 saw the release of "CHRISTMAS CHEERS," which proved a top 50 smash on the Billboard 200 album chart. The collection features a further selection of holiday-themed classics, reworked in the group's inventive and original style. Among its highlights is a studio version of SNC's YouTube sensation, "The 12 Days of Christmas," the video of which is now approaching an extraordinary 13 million views.
A series of sold out headline tours followed the release of both "HOLIDAY SPIRITS" and "CHRISTMAS CHEERS." The 10-member group's captivating live show was captured for posterity in the hugely successful PBS special, Live In New York: Holiday Edition. The 2009 concert was among the most popular programs aired during PBS' annual December Pledge Drive.
Straight No Chaser's third and most recent album, "WITH A TWIST," marked the group's highest chart debut to date, entering the Billboard 200 at No 29 upon its April 2010 release. In addition, the album - which includes the group's collaboration with Barry Manilow on the classic "One Voice" - received the 5th largest pre-order in Atlantic Records history. The group celebrated the success of "WITH A TWIST" with a memorable appearance on NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, where they performed an homage to ABC's famed "TGIF" line-up.
