New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Verismo Official Website) Brooklyn thrash-rock trio VERISMO returns to the scene to follow up their crushing 2007 debut "City of Kings" with a new 4 song EP titled "Falling up the Stairs". This long awaited release sees the band pushing the envelope of their craft and indulging in some high end production along the way. The line up remains Stephan Laboccetta on vocals and guitar, Tamas Vajda on the drums, and Vinny Cruz on bass and vocals. The album begins with an instantly recognizable bass riff that launches "Unholy", a funeral march-based beast of an intro track that paints the story of a failed relationship and its' after effects. The second track, "Stealing Chromies" is a bizarre romp through childhood fears set against an odd time signature and featuring an excellent trade-off solo between guitar and bass. Next is "Failure", a darkly sarcastic metal epic expertly arranged in true Verismo fashion and filled with double bass madness and break neck time changes. The disc finishes with "A Manner Darkly" where the band takes a massive turn into uncharted ballad territory while retaining their grit in the chorus sections. In "Falling up the Stairs" the band showcases its diverse abilities, flexing skills in odd time signatures, counterpoint rhythms, and plain virtuosic weirdness that defines their style regardless of release. For those hearing the trio's music for the first time, come hear what thrash-loving Brooklynites have known for years: Verismo deals. Recorded at Sweetfire Studios, Brooklyn.
