LONDON (Reuters) - The rock band Foo Fighters have canceled their European tour after drummer Taylor Hawkins was admitted to hospital, the group have said.

A statement from the band on Tuesday said Hawkins was the victim of ``overindulgence'' at a weekend pop festival. Shows in Portugal, Edinburgh, London and Dublin have now been canceled.

"Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins was hospitalized yesterday morning after having apparently overindulged during festivities following the V2001 festival in Chelmsford, UK," the statement said.
"Hawkins is reported to be in a stable condition," it said.

The band was started by Dave Grohl, who was the drummer in Nirvana before singer Kurt Cobain killed himself.
