Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts/ CineMedia Promotions) Composer Lorne Balfe (Megamind, Call of Duty 2:
Modern Warfare video game) is proud to announce the release of the Ironclad Original Soundtrack. The soundtrack has been released by Varese Sarabande and is currently available in Europe.
Lorne Balfe is a Grammy award- winning film composer from Inverness, Scotland. Lorne is known for composing the scores to the Dreamworks' animation Megamind, and Ron Howard's film The Dilemma, in collaboration with Academy Award- winning composer, Hans Zimmer. In addition to being recognized for producing two of Zimmer's Oscar- nominated scores, Sherlock Holmes and Inception, Lorne has also received significant recognition for his work in the United Kingdom. In 2009, Lorne was nominated for the Discovery of the Year World Soundtrack Award for his score for BAFTA award- winning Crying With Laughter and he was nominated for the prestigious Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Award.
Balfe began his career in Hollywood providing additional music on several major motion pictures, including: the Pirates of the Caribbean II, and III, The Simpsons Movie, Angels & Demons, Iron Man, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. He also composed additional music on the 2009 Golden Globe nominated film Frost/Nixon. Complimented by his additional music, Balfe's role as a score producer on 2008's The Dark Knight earned Lorne a Grammy for "Best Score Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture."
In 2009, Balfe was music producer and composer of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 videogame, and score producer for Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes, which earned a 2010 Oscar nomination for BestOriginal Score. Only a year later, in 2011, Balfe produced the score for Christopher Nolan's Inception, which also earned a Oscar nomination for Best Original Score.
Balfe's recent film projects include Dreamworks' box office hit Megamind, Ron Howard's film The Dilemma, and the British made film, Ironclad.
"I am proud of this score because it gave me an opportunity to explore the minds of these characters who had just returned from the crusades," said Balfe. "Knowing that the Knights Templars during that time in history would have been exposed to various types of music, including Middle Eastern, Western, and Celtic instrumentation, I was challenged to write a score that was ethnically accurate and not overly westernized and glorified."
It is the year 1215 and the rebel barons of England have forced their despised King John (Paul Giamatti) to put his royal seal to the Magna Carta - a noble, seminal document that upheld the rights of free-men. Yet within months of pledging himself to the great charter, the King reneged on his word and assembled a mercenary army on thesouth coast of England with the intention of bringing the barons and the country back under his tyrannical rule. Barring his way stood the mighty Rochester castle, a place that would become the symbol of the rebels' momentous struggle for justice and freedom. Ironclad also stars Kate Mara, Brian Cox and James Purefoy.
Balfe described, "While scoring this film I was able to collaborate with a multitude of diversely talented and highly respected musicians including: Irish singer/song writer Paul Brady, Internationally acclaimed- Carnyx musician John Kenny, and the popular German band Corvus Corax. The one musical connection for the period of time that this film portrayed and present day is the concept of a melody. That being said, trying to give this score a new approach as opposed to what the audience would normally expect was exciting and being able to use a palette of Medieval, Celtic, and Western tonality and instrumentation was exhilarating!"
ARC Entertainment presents Ironclad, currently in theaters in the United Kingdom and slated for release in the United States in June. Ironclad - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on Varese Sarabande is available in Europe, in the US digitally via iTunes, with a US CD release to be announced.
