NEW YORK (Tina Turner Fans Website) - Rock legend Tina Turner will play a Hindu goddess in a Merchant-Ivory musical entitled 'The Goddess'. Matthew Modine will also star.
Ismail Merchant said: "No other pop singer in the world has as much appeal as Tina Turner. So we felt she was the best choice to do this role. The film is based on a mythological subject."
He confirmed that the 64-year-old would be playing the goddess Shakti in the film, which is set in India and London.
