London (Top40 Charts/ MIXED MEDIA Promotions) The Bohemian Quartet is a four-piece string band comprised of a violin, viola, cello and bass. The Quartet was founded by, violinist, Stan Renard, in 2005. The quartet is based in Providence, Rhode Island. The name Bohemian Quartet was borrowed from the original Bohemian Quartet; also known as the Czech Quartet after 1918. The original Bohemian Quartet was founded in 1891 and disbanded in 1934. The new Bohemian Quartet performs a vast and unique repertoire revolving around traditional Gypsy or Romany music as well as traditional Eastern-European folk music. The music has been collected via recordings, transcription, and interviews, and arranged by Stan. The quartet was featured on the One World Show produced by Robert Malin; receiving an award for Best
Music Documentary-2007 in Rhode Island. The Bohemian Quartet's recently released CD, Beyond Tradition, was placed on the 2010 ballot for three nominations by The Grammy Association. The mission of the Quartet is to create an awareness of, and love for, Romany music.

The Bohemian Quartet:
Stan Renard is a virtuoso violinist, violist and active conductor and arranger. As a violinist, he was the pupil of Veda Reynolds (Curtis Institute), Alexandre Brussilovsky, (Assistant of Leonid Kogan in Moscow and Yehudi Menuhin in London), Philip Setzer (Emerson String Quartet) and Marylou Speaker Churchill (Principal Second Violinist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra). In addition to founding the Bohemian Quartet, Stan was a member of the Versailles Piano Trio, the Fragancia De Tango, and the Trio Nostalgia. He has also worked in close collaboration with the American String Quartet, the Orion String Quartet, the St-Lawrence String Quartet, the Prazak Quartet, the jazz violinists John Blake and Chris Devine. Stan is an alumnus of the Pierre Monteux Conducting School in Hancock, Maine and has established the chamber orchestra Opus 1 which is now is residency at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. As a conductor, Stan studied with and was the assistant of Maestros Lanfranco Marcelletti, Harvey Sollberger, and Michael Jinbo. Stan is currently a doctoral student at the University of Connecticut; studying with well-known violinist, Theodore Arm.
Nancy Richardson, violist, has enjoyed a career in both performance and music education. She has played in orchestras such as the Rhode Island Philharmonic, Ocean State Chamber Orchestra, the Charleston Symphony, Winnipeg Symphony and the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra - for which she recorded on Radio Canada. For the past nine years, Nancy has taught string instrument classes in the Cranston Public School System and she believes deeply in the importance of music education in the public schools - particularly in youth development through rigorous music study. She has also held teaching positions at the Music School of the Rhode Island Philharmonic as well as Medicine Hat College in Alberta, Canada. In recent years, Nancy has become an enthusiastic player of Appalachian fiddle music and is a member of the Brown University Old Time String Band.Nancy is a graduate of Boston University and the Cleveland Institute where she studied with violists Heidi Castleman and Robert Vernon. She also holds a degree in Education from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec.
Christine Harrington is a cellist and orchestra director in the Cranston, RI, public schools. Christine is a past president of the Rhode Island Music Educators Association and of the Rhode Island String Teachers Association, which is the state affiliate of the American String Teachers Association. She is a founding member of the IAJE String Caucus whose primary focus is to promote improvising strings. Christine has presented many workshops on new music for improvising strings throughout the country. In addition, she has presented many workshops in Rhode Island and Massachusetts on teaching strings in the public schools and on teaching alternative strings techniques. Christine is a graduate of the Hartt School of Music, Hartford, CT and Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT. Most recently, she has studied improvisation with renowned jazz musician, Hal Crook. Christine Harrington has performed symphonic and chamber music, as well as Celtic and contemporary jazz. She performed regularly with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony for 20 years and is the cellist on Grammy nominated jazz piano and cello CD, Sand Box with pianist and composer Joe Parillo and the Celtic Fiddle Fest Rendezvous with Johnny Cunningham and Kevin Burke.
John DeBossu is one of the most respected upright bass players in the Rhode Island area and has been performing on various stages all over New England. Classically trained, John lived in Switzerland to study math and computer science. While there, he performed in France and Switzerland in various jazz groups and studied with B. Waelday, the former principal bassist with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande based in Geneva. Having moved to the Boston area, John studied with Miroslav Vitous, the founding bass player of Weather Report and later with Paul Del Nero - a much-respected jazz bassist in Boston. In addition to being a software engineer earning a Master in Computer Science from Brown University, John performs with numerous jazz groups and big bands in the RI area, as well as with Minor Swing, Swing n Strings, the Automatics and is a member of the Bohemian Quartet since January 2006. John lives in Pawtucket, RI with his wife and daughter.
