DETROIT (White Stripes Fan Website) - White Stripes frontman Jack White was charged today with aggravated assault. White was involved fight with Jason Stollsteimer of The Von Bondies at a Detroit bar just over a week ago. Stollsteimer claimed that White hit him seven times in the face without provocation, while White said that he acted in self-defense.

A Wayne County prosecutor told reporters that the fight was the result of an on-going disagreement between the men over Jack White's role in producing The Von Bondies' debut album.

White faces a maximum sentence of one year in prison if convicted. "It seems far too often that celebrities think the law does not apply to them," Wayne County Prosecutor Mike Duggan told reporters earlier today at a press conference to announce the charge against Jack White.

White and his ex-wife, Meg, make up the White Stripes. They're nominated together for three Grammy Awards: album of the year and alternative music album for "Elephant," and best rock performance by a duo or group with vocal for "Seven Nation Army." The song also earned Jack White a solo nomination for best rock song.
White also has a small role as a singer in the film "Cold Mountain," starring Nicole Kidman, Jude Law and Renee Zellweger, which opens Christmas Day.
