Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts/ BFM Digital) - London, Ontario's Decade of Sleep has such an exciting time ahead; consider it apropos to wonder whether they get any sleep at all. The band will stage the Toronto CD release of the follow-up to 2009's Morning Sun EP on December 2, 2010 at The Rivoli. Decade of Sleep is also thrilled to launch the new video for 'Sympathy' which they hope to get picked up by the music television and online outlets.
'Sympathy', a signature track off the band's new record, is a song about being in love and the excitement of a new relationship. 'Everyone can relate to being just absolutely mesmerized by someone,' explains lead singer Phil Laffin. 'The speaker in the song is just completely infatuated by this female who draws him in. He is pulled in by the magnetic sexuality of this female and has little control over his emotions toward her; he is just beaming with affection. It's a great sentiment.'
For video production, the band recruited a generous talent familiar to them. 'The video is really the brain child of our close friend Jeremy Bugden,' says guitarist Lance Schibler 'We were friends long before either of us worked professionally in our chosen fields.' Budgen's company Sun Gods found creative methods of maximizing the video's potential on a limited budget.
'We only had enough money to get some good cameras in front of us, and capture a performance,' says Schibler. 'From there, Jeremy was inspired by the idea of taking lighting changes, changing playback speed to make the performance as visually engaging as possible. The results are some shots that look glittery and sped up, and others that look really rich and jello-y.'
Joining Laffin and Schibler in Decade of Sleep is drummer Mat Pataki and bassist Eric Walker. The band utilized two Juno-winning engineers for their sophomore album, produced by Denis Tougas (Amanda Marshall, Geddy Lee) and mixed by John 'Beetle' Bailey (Serena Ryder, The Rankin Family). A collection of 11 sharply written songs, the new record is instantly accessible yet sophisticated and exploratory.
There's certainly no shortage of good things in Decade of Sleep's trajectory. The CD release show at the Rivoli in Toronto on December 2nd also features Dan Roth, The Joys, and dj Lucas. Be there to witness first-hand how the talent in and around the band is leading them toward big things.
