NEW YORK (Aaliyah Fans Website) - An inquest has opened in the Bahamas into the plane crash that killed singer Aaliyah and eight others back in 2001.

Testifying on Monday, a pathologist said the singer's death was caused by severe burns and a blow to the head upon impact.
He also revealed that she "suffered generally from a weak heart" suggesting that Aaliyah "went into a state of shock, and that even if she had survived the crash, recovery would have been near impossible."

The inquest is being conducted in order to examine the plane crash and deaths in order to rule on causes. At the time of her death the R&B star had just finished filming the video for the song "Rock the Boat."
