Albany, NY (Top40 Charts/ McMullen & Company) - Matt Savage's highly anticipated ninth album, Welcome Home, will be released on November 9th on
Savage Records. 'Welcome Home (Boston)' is the first single and it will ship to radio on the same date. Fans in Albany, New York will get a special preview performance of some of the songs from the new album when Matt performs on October 1st at The Linda, WAMC's Performing Arts Studio. Matt's solo concert will begin at 7:00 PM and tickets are $30.00. Composed and arranged entirely by Matt, Welcome Home features thirteen new and original songs produced by Grammy-nominated Jonathan Wyner and engineered by nine-time Grammy winner, Tom Bates. The album celebrates Matt's travels and the many places he has called 'home.' From the country to the city to concerts around the world, Matt continues his journey as an extraordinarily talented jazz composer, performer and pianist.
For the first time, Welcome Home includes a quintet that features the legendary Bobby Watson on alto sax as well as Jeremy Pelt on trumpet/flugelhorn, Joris Teepe on bass and Peter Retzlaff on drums. Several of Matt's compositions appear as trio recordings with various configurations comprised of Joris Teepe and Peter Retzlaff as well as longtime bassist, John Funkhouser and drummer, Yoron Israel.
Presently a sophomore at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Matt has made this city a 'home away from home,' with performances at such local venues as the renowned Regattabar. He manages to balance classes, studies and concert gigs while maintaining a GPA of 4.0 and achieving Dean's List status. The Boston Globe caught up with Matt this year, describing just how well he is navigating college and career. In the article, the author refers to the song 'Picturesque,' which appears on the new album. He writes, 'Later, on the soundstage at Berklee's Cafe 939 on Boylston Street, Savage demonstrates the power and fluidity of his maturing playing style as he launches into 'Picturesque,' one of his original compositions. Studious-looking but never stiff, he plays the piece in a lilting, expressive manner that lends its softer edges a big, impressive sound. After finishing, Savage says what he loves most about jazz is its spontaneity, a quality embedded in every note he's just played.'
The Wall Street Journal was equally enthusiastic upon attending Matt's 2008 concert at New York City's Cachac,a Jazz Club. As 'Big Apple Suite' debuted (another song from the new album) the writer described Matt as 'a phenomenally talented pianist and composer who demands to be taken seriously on purely musical terms.'
Matt Savage continues his creative evolution with the release of Welcome Home. College commitments notwithstanding, Matt's live concerts will continue to captivate his fans with performances reflecting the synchronicity that emerges when exceptional music meets an exceptional musician.
