LONDON, UK (Britney Spears Fans Website) - Britney Spears has officially dropped out of this year's MTV Europe Music Awards, which take place later this week. The pop star was scheduled to present an award at the ceremony on Thursday night in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Spears' people say that the singer is suffering from a severe throat infection, and has been forced to cut short a European promotional tour due to her illness. Spears is currently recovering at her Louisiana family home.

MTV Europe's Harriet Brand said that "she was in Paris, she became extremely ill then and was actually checked into the hospital there for a night or two. It was after being released from there that her label felt they didn't want to take the risk with her health. And so they flew her back over the weekend."
Spears' comeback single featuring Madonna, called Me Against The Music, is due to be released in Europe on 10 November.

Despite Spears' absence, the show will go on Thursday with Christina Aguilera hosting, and performances from Travis, Beyonce, Kylie Minogue and the White Stripes (the ceremony will be held at Ocean Terminal complex in Leith).
