NEW YORK (Derrty Entertainment press release) - On the heels of the success of his No1 smash hit, "Shake Ya Tailfeather," featuring P.
Diddy and fellow St. Lunatic member Murphy Lee, Derrty Entertainment/Fo' Reel/Universal Records' artist
Nelly rides the top of the radio chart with his newest song, "Iz U."
This week the song comes in as the No1 Most Added Song at the urban radio format - attesting to the superstar rapper's enduring popularity. The song is the lead single from Nelly's next album,
Da Derrty Versions (The Reinvention), which will be in stores on November 25th.
"Iz U" is another infectious club anthem from the multi-platinum rapper that creatively uses the bass line from the theme of The People's Court, the popular TV court case series. The song is produced by Nelly's in-house hit- making duo, known as the Basement Beats (comprised of Wally Yaghnam and Jayson "Jay E" Epperson).
Both have produced previous hits with Nelly including: "#1," "Country Grammar," "Batter Up" and "Ride Wit Me" - all of which appear re-mixed on Da Derrty Versions... Nelly said that "'Iz U' is an older song that I completed, but never put out. So, before I put it on this album, I did it over a little differently."
Da Derrty Versions contains brand new versions of Nelly's hits from his 2000 debut album, Country Grammar (which has sold over eight million units to date), his 6x platinum sophomore project, Nellyville released in 2002; and the St. Lunatics' platinum-selling 2001 debut Free City. The album is conceived as a reinvention album rather than a traditional remix album. "Basically, we already had the formula for the songs the first time around, all we're doing is reinventing the idea of these songs, playing with them a bit," says Nelly.
Special guests on the album include Ron Isley ("Pimp Juice"), David Banner and 8 Ball ("Air Force Ones"), the Clipse and BET battle rap winner Postaboy ("No1") and more. On "Batter Up," Nelly introduces up-and-coming artists from Derrty Entertainment, his new venture with Universal Records. The new version of "Ride Wit Me" featuring City Spud, integrates an interpolation of Grammy- winning singer/songwriter John Mayer's popular hit, "No Such Thing."
Nelly is also gearing up for a limited European tour that kicks off early November.
