NASHVILLE, TN. (Top40 Charts/ PLA Media) - 'Cars,' the latest single from award-winning singer/songwriter, playwright and environmentalist Michael Johnathon, climbs the Top 30 Indie charts according to Spin Tracking Sysytem (STS). Within one week, 'Cars' has advanced two additional spots reaching number 16 on the chart. AcousticMusic.com reviews saying, 'There's a lot of feel-good in this picker's work, more than a little social commentary, and tons of tunefully enticing music in making a potpourri of themes and melodies.'
Michael is not only known for his traditional folk music, but also has a successful radio and TV show that airs on more than 500 stations each week. During his latest interview with Pandora radio, Michael discusses the inspiration behind WoodSong's Old Time Radio Hour. He proclaims that the idea for WoodSongs arose from his desire to merge A Prairie Home Companion with a station he listened to as a child called Rainbow Quest which featured a live audience each week. 'They were not dependent on fame, commercial success or media contact,' declares Michael, 'Music is best performed by talented members of its own audience.'
WoodSongs Old Time Radio Hour is an all-volunteer run program that airs on terrestrial and satellite radio stations, including the American Forces Radio Network which broadcasts the show into 180 countries. Episodes can also be streamed online and are broadcast on TV in nearly 65 million homes nationwide on PBS affiliates.
Aside from WoodSongs, Michael also wrote the script for the award-winning play Walden: The Ballad of Thoreau. Walden has been performed in over 7,400 colleges, community theaters, high schools and home schools in 41 countries since its release in 2007. It was shot as a high-def TV production that aired nationwide on PBS.
On top of his altruistic efforts, the release of this Renaissance man's latest single charted just in time to blast over car speakers on summer days when drivers enjoy windows-down adventures. Michael remembers, 'I was inspired by life's simple pleasures like enjoying a drive in muscle car when I started writing for this record. It's the simple things that we never get sick of.'
