NEW YORK (Top 40 Charts/Temptations Fans Website) - Temptations lead singer Barrington Henderson has filed against Motown, group founder Otis Williams and others alleging they failed to pay him royalties for both a platinum Temptations album and a Grammy winning album. In a statement, Barrington also claims the Temptations continue to use Henderson's image and voice on merchandise, advertising and the Temptations website. "in an effort to use his popularity to further their own success and make money". Henderson was fired in June of this year despite promises to him and Temptations fans that he'd continue to be the lead singer of the band, says the lawsuit. Henderson - who'd had the job for five years - also alleges the Temptations failed to make the required social security payments on his behalf and that Otis Williams, the founder of the Temptations and the only remaining original member, "made defamatory and untrue statements about Henderson's ability to perform".
"By filing this case, plaintiff seeks to abolish the illegal practices of big-name bands using the talent of their musicians and singers and not paying them what they deserve and are owed," says the suit. The Temptations hit the big time in the 1960s with hits such as The Way You Do the Things You Do and My Girl. The group's line-up has changed many times over the years and they still continue to tour the world.
