LONDON, UK (Top40 Charts) - Cheryl Cole has contracted malaria, according to her spokesperson. Cole, 27, best known as a member of the band Girls Aloud and a judge on "The X Factor" reality TV series, had already cancelled her work commitments for a week on the advice of doctors. BBC reports that Cole recently returned from a short break in Tanzania with her friend and dancer Derek Hough. The singer is thought to have been bitten by a mosquito and was diagnosed with exhaustion and gastroenteritis. After reports in the tabloids that she collapsed during a photoshoot, Cole's spokesperson said "she is now being treated in hospital for the infectious disease." Simon Cowell, who is currently filming for the new series of The X Factor, has told Cole not to rush back to work.
