Gillingham, Kent, UK (By Mikey) - Country music legend Johnny Cash died this morning (Sept 12) at the age of 71.
According to hospital officials in Nashville, Tennessee, the musician suffered complications from diabetes that resulted in respiratory failure.

A press release issued by Baptist Hospital said Cash died at 1am (EDT). He had been released from Baptist on Wednesday (Sept 10) after receiving treatment for an unspecified stomach ailment.
"I hope that friends and fans of Johnny will pray for the Cash family to find comfort during this very difficult time," said the star's manager, Lou Robin.

Cash, still in mourning following the recent death of his wife, June Carter-Cash, had been in and out of hospital in recent years, following bouts of pneumonia and bronchitis. He had been due to attend the MTV Video Music Awards in New York earlier this month but instead, due to his recent stomach ailment, watched the star-studded ceremony from his Nashville hospital bed.

Nominated for six awards for his magnificent video, 'Hurt', Cash received the prize for Best Cinematography. He had planned to travel to California later this month to continue work on the latest installment of his 'American Recordings' album series.
