New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Virgin Records) - Anna-Catherine Hartley, better known by her stage name Uffie, is an American rapper and lyricist currently signed by French music label Ed Banger Records. She fuses synthpop, electronica, hip hop, rap and dance into her convoluted records and has worked with her fellow label-mates and super trendy, DJ Feadz and Mr. Oizo. Her debut album, 'Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans' will be released in early 2010, and tonight was an opportunity to get a listen in East London's coolest hang out Wah Nails.

Quite why one would choose to host an album listening party in a nail shop is beyond me; is it the free beer and punch? Or is it a chance to get your nails done? Or is it to listen to Uffie's new offering? A mixture of all three I would guess. But tonight we are unfortunately let down on the music front.

Yes this is still Uffie as we know her, but there doesn't seem to be much progression from infectious classic 'Pop the Glock'. With the exception of few encouraging tracks, most of the album sounds caught up in the dogmatic ed-banger bubble which has come to dominate the electronica genre.

Perhaps people will say I need to be more discerning, that I need to appreciate the nuances of these cutting edge dance floor fillers. Uffie appears to have made a lazy album, too fructuous and unapologetically repetitive. But not to worry, there is always more beer to sip and nail designs to think about. Now I know why we are in the nails shop after-all!

Nevertheless, it is often difficult to gage an album on first-listen, especially with manicures going on left, right and centre. Uffie will release 'Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans' this coming Spring.
