SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (Top40 Charts/ Poetikool Justice Official Website) - South Australia's newest energy, Poetikool Justice, has been announced as the recipients of the 2009 Emily Burrows Award. Members of the group, Ben Williams, Mitch Hay, Adam Blesing, Sean Dedrick and Steve Dedrick were presented with their award at the FUSE Festival VIP networking drinks last night at the Arcade Lane Theatre in Adelaide.

Sponsored by the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA), the award recognises emerging artists from South Australia, providing financial support to further their professional development. The $4,000 prize was instituted in 2001 in memory of Emily Burrows- a former APRA membership representative and compliance officer, who worked tirelessly to support and encourage South Australian songwriters and composers. The Award was established following her tragic, accidental death in 2000.

A unique blend of funk, reggae, rock and hip hop, Poetikool Justice's live show makes them one of the best live acts in South Australia. In 2005 they won the SAMI award for Best SA Hip Hop Act, and have since continued to grow their audience. They have earned the respect of the industry having played alongside Lowrider, TZU & Blue King Brown, and in 2010 headlined the SA stage at the Big Day Out.

"I took an immediate shine to the group's melodic style and songwriting. They are obviously a very entertaining good-time group, but with a strong social conscience as well," said Gary Burrows, APRA's Licensing Manager in South Australia and father of the late Emily Burrows.

Previous winners have included The Fiddle Chicks (2008), Huckleberry Swedes (2007), Mere Theory (2006), Pharaohs (2005), Foreshore (2004), Special Patrol (2003), Hilltop Hoods (2002) and Gone to Earth (2001).
