LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts/ Sharon Isbin Official Website) - Sharon Isbin is the first guitarist in 43 years to receive a second classical Grammy Award. She received her first Grammy in 2001 in the same category, for Dreams of a World. Isbin was also the only classical artist to perform in the 52nd Annual Awards. She performed a solo by Venezuelan composer Antonio Lauro, and was then joined by a band of bluegrass nominees for a rousing rendition of "Sitting on Top of the World." After receiving her award from the legendary Roberta Flack, she said in her acceptance speech: "I would like to thank Joan Baez and Mark O'Connor for their beautiful performances on this recording, Alex Miller and Larry Hamby of Sony, my producer David Frost, engineers Tim Martyn and Dann Thompson, the composers and arrangers who wrote such inspiring music, Richard Nordlof, Jay Hoffman, Mark Alpert, and my parents. This is a great honor not only for me, but for the guitar..." As of today, Isbin's Journey to the New World is in its 46th consecutive week on the Billboard Top Classical Crossover chart. Alongside Sting, Yo-Yo Ma, Domingo, Il Divo and Bocelli, she is featured in three Billboard Year End Charts highlighting the bestsellers of 2009: Top Classical Artists, Top Classical Crossover Albums, and Top Classical Albums.
