Portland, OR. (Top40 Charts/ GRIT PR & Consulting, LLC) - The Rebellion, a Canadian band known for its dynamic live shows and poignant, thoughtful lyrics, will release its second album in 2010. The band will support the release with a tour across Canada and the United States. Having performed over 200 club and corporate concerts since 2007, this new release is highly anticipated for thousands of fans in North America.
The Rebellion is comprised of a 'band of brothers,' as the members call themselves; and began with Palmer and Moldovan, two young talented musicians, who met and instantly bonded. Palmer had sold his first Fender Stratocaster to Silvu's father, who bought it as a gift for Silvu. It was only 6 months later when the two men became fast friends and opened up their own recording studio, PM Recording Studios, which is now one of Saskatoon's top production studios. PM Recordings' first clients were Schultz and Kongawi; when Palmer and Moldovan heard them play, they instantly knew the four of them would fit together both musically and personally. Today, the band is comprised of Christian Kongawi on drums and vocals, Silviu Moldovan on guitar, piano and vocals, Josh Palmer on guitar Rhodes piano, acoustic piano and vocals and Rylan Schultz on bass and vocals.
The approach the band uses to create its music and lyrics often calls upon the members' past experiences, leading to songs that are often described as 'explosive.' Their genre of music may be hard to pigeonhole or classify, but there is something familiar and recognizable about it because it contains elements from a wide range of musical styles, incorporating soul, rock, classical and a plethora of other influences. There is a multicultural influence that contributes to there sound that stems from Kongawi being born in The Democratic Republic of Congo, and Moldovan being born in Romainia. Both member immigrating to Canada when they were children. Also, as the closest of friends, the men have used many of their commonalities to infuse the music with their own personal feelings of brotherhood and strong friendship.
The Rebellion's first album, Time, was a reawakening for the band members: a solid and creative way for the men to bond through the art of music. They call the album 'a new chapter' in their lives, and as the first album recorded from start to finish in PM Recording, it was a great way for the men to learn and grow as musicians and producers.
After the recording, the band hit the road incessantly, working hard to perfect its signature sound in a live setting. Critics agree this enabled them to 'hone their show to a sharp point', helping them to sell out shows across the country. Some tour highlights included the 2007 Juno Award Festival, Canadian Music Week and SASKTEL Jazz Festival, Saskatoon, in July 2008. The Rebellion has also shared the stage with Hey Ocean several times in 2008 and '09; and with The Bourne Ruffians in 2008. That same year, the band In Flight Safety invited The Rebellion to support their Saskatchewan dates, and since then they've been asked share the stage with such groups as Indie pop rockers Obijou, The Weakerthans and Joel Plasket.
'The Rebellion,' says Palmer of their live show, 'has been a vessel for us to express our true feelings of the world and the relationships we have within it. Live, we let go. We rock out. It's a liberating feeling for us and the audience. We're having so much fun on stage, and that transfers to the audience. Through this liberating sense I personally get from playing in The Rebellion, I feel completely honest in my writing and performing. There are no walls - you get in, and it's our sincere wish that people join in and sing.'
