New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Rage Against The Machine Official Website) - 'Killing In The Name' out-sells X-factor winner Joe McEldry. Band to donate part of the proceeds to charity. Rage Against The Machine's 17-year-old anthem 'Killing In The Name' has claimed the coveted No 1 position on the UK Christmas charts ahead of favourite and X-factor winner Joe McEldery. McEldry's cover of Miley Cyrus' 'The Climb' was out-sold by 50 000, following an online campaign by Rage fan Jon Mortmer to get the LA rockers into the No 1 position. With the UK Christmas charts dominated by X-factor winners the past 3 years, the campaign ignited the passion of the masses, who seemed eager to topple the X-factor monopoly. Speaking to BBC Radio 1 about the feat, Rage frontman Zack De La Rocha said: "We're great, we're very, very ecstatic and excited about the song reaching the Number One spot and I just want to thank everyone for participating in this incredible, organic grass roots campaign. "It's more about the spontaneous action taken by young people in the UK to topple this very sterile pop monopoly. When young people decide to take action they can make what's seemingly impossible, possible". Part of the proceeds will be donated to the homeless charity Shelter, and the band will play a free UK gig next year in celebration.
