New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Frozen Inertia Official Website) - This week
Chicago independent band, Frozen Inertia, released their song 'Picking Up Where
Billy Joel left Off' from their album 'The Frozen Inertia Ensemble'. Despite the title, the song has little resemblance to the referenced song. Lead singer, Timothy Graves on the song and title choice; 'The title was more related to timing, with the recent political change, it felt like the dawn of a new era. I was reflecting on everything that has happened over the past couple decades, and 'We Didn't Start the Fire' seemed like a good starting point'. The lyrics range from political, to advances in technology, as well as moments in pop culture; "Time moves by so quickly, it's easy to forget how many defining moments have occurred during such a short period of time".
Unlike the mega-hit, this album was recorded, released and funded 100% independently, without support of record labels. Drummer, Brad Palmer on the recording process; 'It was truly an independent effort; the album was recorded in remote locations spanning several states including Illinois, Ohio, Georgia, and Texas. My contribution, the drums, were recorded in a barn in Canal Fulton, Ohio'. The song and album has started to quickly gain attention on radio & podcasts, as well as social sites like Jango and Twitter. It's even caught attention across continents, earning airplay on BBC6 radio.
Frozen Inertia created a YouTube clip for 'Picking Up Where Billy Joel Left Off'. Timothy's thoughts behind the idea, 'I certainly consider myself more of a song writer than video director, but thought it was a good way to showcase the lyrics. The idea is simple, song lyrics scroll across the viewers screen while my cousin Tracy and I talked over a bottle of wine, all while broadcast media commentary flashes on the TV screen behind us. The premise is that what you are watching is like life in general. Big events happen, but you still have to continue your daily routine'. 'We don't expect the video to get huge hits off YouTube, our music isn't meant for a mainstream audience, but we thought it was a great way to get the word out and get some feedback from the song and album. It's allowed us to start reaching fans that understand our music and that makes us happy.'
'Picking Up Where Billy Joel Left Off' and the album the Frozen Inertia Ensemble is available for download on I-Tunes as well as MP3 and limited CD release on Amazon.com. More info can also be found at FrozenInertia.com
